DRC creates the second airline

AA / Kinshasa / Pascal Mulegwa

Officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have announced the creation of a new civil aviation agency with Ethiopia to open 26 Congolese provinces and ensure international transportation.

Air Congo will be launched in the first quarter of 2022, Congolese Transport Minister Anatolia Agency Serupin Okonde said, promising it was a “completed joint venture with Ethiopian Airlines”.

The new company, which will be launched for seven aircraft and international transport on the national network, will complete the national fleet carried so far by Congo Airways, which was launched in 2015.

“Many countries have more than one airline. Four in South Africa and six in the United States. Congo Airways will retain its place. There will be no adverse effects on Congo Airways, ”O’Keefe assured.

Thanks to partnerships with foreign companies such as Kenya Airways, the fleet of the first company, Congo Airways, will be “strengthened” with new aircraft next year.

Congo Airways replaced the bankrupt Congo Airlines (LAC) since 2003, when its planes did not fly for many years. The Congolese Air Force is still on the European Union (EU) blacklist due to a lack of infrastructure and aircraft quality. There are only fifty airports in the country.
