Fabien Roussel sets the curriculum for French foreign departments and territories

“A question of agenda”. According to our information Fabian Russell will undertake two foreign trips. The first, the longest, will be in the week of November 22nd. The PCF presidential candidate will travel a week via Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana. The next month, he had to go to Reunion, especially at the slavery abolition commemoration event.

“I do not want to delay going to its territories anymore, I should not go there at the end of the campaign. There is also the question of agenda because these trips are long and they have to be arranged in advance,” the Communist candidate explains.

What are the themes of these trips?

Fabien Roussel wants to focus on one key issue overseas: purchasing power. “This is a more important question abroad than in metropolitan France. Poverty and social hardship are even greater, and the absence of public service and government is even more important. The sense of abandonment and contempt is strong.”

Other themes will be discussed according to each region: “In Guyana, I will meet with Gabriel Survey (Guyana’s Speaker, former PCF deputy) and we will talk specifically about protecting the Amazon rainforest”.

In the West Indies, the Communist candidate wants to return to pollution with this pesticide chlordegon, which was used on banana plantations between 1972 and 1993. In Reunion, Fabian Russell wants to focus on the fight against illiteracy: “There is also corruption in the state, which does not provide the necessary mechanisms”.

“I did not come to lecture”

The health crisis in French foreign sectors and territories is one of the topics openly addressed. According to the PCF leader, the crisis is exacerbated by a lack of resources at the site, leading to imprisonment and a very long emergency. “It’s a double fine,” he says.
