Politician Kane Hamid Baba was killed in a road accident

Mauritanian politician Kane Hamido Baba, leader of the opposition political organization and leader of the Coalition Vivre Group (CVE), was injured and killed in a road accident in Spain on Tuesday.

Kane Hamid Baba was one of the candidates for the 2019 presidential election and was previously elected as an MP.

According to local media, including Al AKhbar, Hamidou Baba, 67, was killed in a road accident on December 12 near the town of Adar in northern Mauritania.

He was admitted to a military hospital in Nouakchott before being deported to Spain, where he died without treatment.

The deceased is considered one of the most important Mauritanian politicians of recent decades. He had already run for the presidency in 2019 and came in fourth with a total of 8.71% of the vote.

Hamid Baba was also elected Vice President of the Mauritanian Parliament from 2006 to 2013.
