Bahia firefighters have confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man who drowned in a river in the southern municipality of Aurelino Leal, the G1 news site reported. The region has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few hours. Thirty-seven municipalities have been submerged, Governor Rui Costa, who flew over the affected areas, told G1. Earlier in the day, local authorities announced that 19 municipalities had been affected by the floods.
On Sunday, a joint operation between Federal State and Bahia was underway in collaboration with other states, such as Minas Gerais, to mobilize personnel, helicopters and equipment to help thousands of flood-affected residents.
